This study canvassed the relation of concepts like authority, autonomy and hierarchy to the individuals' social, economic and professional position. Many questions dealt with the respondent's work, work history, place of work and autonomy at work. Questions related with the family background of the respondents and their spouses and friends were also asked. A host of questions about social and political attitudes and political participation were included. In addition, various economic changes were listed and the respondents were asked to tell their opinions about them. Background variables were, among others, the year of birth, education and religiosity of the respondent. Five countries participated in the survey: the United States, Norway, Sweden, Canada and Finland.
