The interviews charted men's experiences of myocardial infarction (commonly known as 'heart attack' or 'heart failure') from the viewpoints of coping with a sudden, life-threatening illness and of being a patient. The data include 17 open interviews and 2 public reminiscences, which are available in libraries. The interviews probed themes such as treatment, emotions, changes in world view, other people's reactions, health, ways of living, sex, eating habits, smoking, rehabilitation, and time spent in hospital.
