This qualitative dataset consists of 102 written stories about people's experiences of fear and intimidation at work in Finland. Writers were asked to provide some essential background variables such as their gender, the branch and size of the organisation etc. They were asked to describe what they were afraid of and why, what had led to the situation and by what means had they been intimidated. The writers were also invited to describe situations where they themselves had resorted to intimidation at work and what were the consequences.
The data were collected as part of the LEAR (Leadership, Power and Fear) research project conducted by the Department of Management Studies at the University of Tampere. The project was funded by the Academy of Finland and the Finnish Work Environment Fund. The project opened an online research platform in June 2008 and invited voluntary participants to write narratives about their experiences. The range of participants varied from workers to high management.
