Available data formats
FSD is able to deliver data in a number of formats. The data are stored in SPSS Portable format (*.por), from which they can be converted with the help of Stat/Transfer for example to the following formats:
- 1-2-3 (*.wk1, *.wk3)
- Microsoft Access (*.mdb)
- ASCII (*.txt, *.csv)
- Epi Info (*.rec)
- Microsoft Excel (*.xls)
- HTML tables (*.html)
- JMP 3-8 (*.jmp)
- LIMDEP (*.lpj)
- Matlab (*.mat)
- Paradox (*.db)
- Quattro Pro (*.wq1)
- R (*.rdata)
- SAS (*.ssd, *.sd2, *.ssd01, *.sas7bdat, *.xpt)
- S-PLUS
- SPSS (*.sav, *.por)
- Stata (*.dta)
- Statistica (*.sta)
- Systat (*.sys)
- Triple-S (*.xml, *.asc)
Several of these formats impose restrictions on the handling of missing information, the number of variables and the length of variable names. SAS format, for example, allows only 40 characters for variable and value labels. When converting to Excel, variable labels disappear altogether. Many datasets contain so many variables or observations that it is impossible to deliver them as a single Excel file. Please contact FSD if you need more information.
