The FSD organised two seminars with its co-operation partners in the autumn term. Poverty research was discussed at the University of Jyväskylä in September, and research data management at the University of Helsinki in October.

The seminar on research data management attracted over one hundred participants.

The seminar in Jyväskylä was organised in co-operation with the Finnish Information Centre for Register Research (ReTki) and the Methodology Centre for Human Sciences (IHME). Presentations in the seminar were delivered by the organising parties as well as poverty researchers who had used various poverty data, including Leif Nordberg from Åbo Akademi University, Timo Kauppinen from the National Institute for Health and Welfare, Mikko Niemelä from the Social Insurance Institution of Finland, and Arja Kuula from the Finnish Social Science Data Archive. The topics of the presentations included the concept and indicators of poverty, using register data in poverty research, and using quantitative and qualitative data. This seminar continued the series started in Tampere in the autumn of 2008 by discussing the topic of using data related to child protection, children and youth in social science research. The co-operation between the Finnish Information Centre for Register Research and the FSD will continue in the coming years in the form of seminars.

The FSD organised the seminar in Helsinki together with the Social Science Library of the University of Helsinki. The topics discussed in the seminar included planning the life cycle of research data, managing research data, and promoting the re-use of research data. Presenters included the Director General of the National Archives Service Jussi Nuorteva, the Director of the Academy of Finland's Culture and Society Research Unit Pirjo Hiidenmaa, Docent Marjut Salokannel from the University of Helsinki, researchers Sirpa Lappalainen and Meri Larivaara, and Development Manager Arja Kuula from the Finnish Social Science Data Archive.
