Cross-Cultural Survey Guidelines Available Online
The number and scope of cross-national surveys have increased over the past few decades.
Consequently, there is much need for information about the special issues connected to such
surveys. The Cross-Cultural Survey Guidelines (CCSG) constitute an excellent source of
information, available online and covering all aspects of the survey lifecycle. The site
provides best practice advice for all the different stages of research, from sample and questionnaire design to translation and data collection, harmonization and processing.

By the end of 2010, the representatives of thirteen countries had signed a Memorandum of
Understanding (MOU) for participation in the European Research Infrastructure for Social
Science and Humanities Data, otherwise named as the CESSDA-ERIC. The infrastructure will
promote access to European SSH data and is expected to be established in early
2012. The main office will be located in Bergen, Norway.
ASSDA to Establish a Qualitative Archive
The Australian Social Science Data Archive (ASSDA) has in recent years been extending its holdings to include qualitative data, and is planning to establish the Australian Qualitative Archive (AQuA). The ASSDA has held a national consultation process to enable the social science qualitative research community to have an input into the design and operation of AQuA so that their needs, concerns and methodological approaches are taken into account. A series of focus group interviews were held, and next stage was the publication of a Discussion Paper on the issue.
