Current Projects

This page lists FSD's own projects as well as projects taken on in collaboration with other actors. Projects are listed according to their starting time, from newest to oldest.

EOSC-Nordic

EOSC-Nordic is part of the European Open Science Cloud (EOSC) initiative. The EOSC-Nordic project promotes the openness of research data in the Nordic and Baltic countries. The project aims to facilitate the coordination of EOSC initiatives in the participating countries and to harmonise operational policies and services.

The project is funded by Horizon 2020: the EU Framework Programme for Research and Innovation and coordinated by NeIC, the Nordic e-Infrastructure Collaboration. FSD's contribution in the project is linked to a work package concerning the FAIR principles of research data and best practices in data management.

Funding period: 1 September 2019 – 2022

Crossing Boundaries with Tools and Services (C-BoTS)

The project will enhance the interoperability of the Finnish Social Science Data Archive’s services with other data-related services at the national and international levels. In addition, FSD will increase the visibility of data creators and their organisations as well as the transparency of FSD operations. The goals of the project include automatising reports on the use of FSD services and archived data, exploring available anonymisation tools and charting the possibilities for their use at FSD. The Archive will also upgrade its tools for the management of qualitative textual datasets. The project includes a work package that focuses on cross-national comparative research.

The project is funded by the Academy of Finland's FIRI 2018 call for research infrastructures.

Funding period: 1 January 2019 – 31 December 2023

Social Sciences & Humanities Open Cloud

The project aims to build cloud-based solutions for users of SSH data. The intention is to move from the current decentralised digital research infrastructure to an advanced cloud ecosystem. The new ecosystem will enable data sharing following the FAIR principles, development and provision of tools throughout research lifecycle, and training provision across different fields. FSD is closely involved in work packages focussing on data and metadata interoperability and trust and quality assurance.

The Consortium of European Social Science Data Archives, CESSDA, coordinates the SSHOC project, and 47 organisations participate in the work. The project is funded by Horizon 2020: the EU Framework Programme for Research and Innovation.

Funding period: 1 January 2019 – 30 April 2022

CESSDA Euro Question Bank 2019

The Euro Question Bank project develops a question bank where users can find questions in survey data from all CESSDA organisations. The project is continuation of the previous EQB projects and carries on the development of the question bank and its user interface. In 2019, the project will focus on bringing more content into EQB and including more formats.

Funding period: 1 January – 31 December 2019

CESSDA Metadata Office

The project maintains and manages the CESSDA core metadata model, controlled vocabularies and multilingual thesaurus ELSST.

Funding period: 1 January – 31 December 2019

CESSDA Technical Framework, Phase 5

CESSDA Technical Working Group (TWG) builds up the IT practices of CESSDA and supports the development of the technical infrastructure. The project is led by UK Data Service.

Funding period: 1 January – 31 December 2019

CESSDA Tools & Services Working Group

CESSDA Tools & Services Working Group prioritises and realises new tools and services from Service Providers and third parties for users. FSD leads the Tools & Services WG.

Funding period: 1 January – 31 December 2019

CESSDA Trust Activities

The Trust Activities project provides support and training for Service Providers to acquire the CoreTrustSeal certification, and works on aligning certification evidence for CESSDA SPs. The Trust Activities project will be in close cooperation with other CESSDA projects and working groups as well as other research infrastructures.

Funding period: 1 January – 31 December 2019

CESSDA Trust Working Group

The Trust Working Group supports data archives towards certification and monitors the fulfilment of trust criteria set for CESSDA Service Providers.

Funding period: 1 January – 31 December 2019

Active FSD for CESSDA: New European Services for Researchers

This project allows FSD to focus on meeting the requirements set by CESSDA, as well as actively taking part in development work within the research infrastructure. FSD will have an active role in designing services that CESSDA will offer to European researchers in the future and ensures that its own services are in line with European and international standards.

The funding by the Academy of Finland is based on the proposal submitted in the FIRI 2016 call for research infrastructures based on state memberships.

Funding period: 1 January 2017 – 31 December 2021
