CESSDA Enhanced Research Data Management and Data Discovery Training (ERDM)

The project develops services focusing on research data management and develops CESSDA's online module on research data management for European researchers. The module is designed to teach researchers basic data management knowledge and skills, and address the needs of a wide range of researchers.

Funding period: 1 January – 31 December 2018

CESSDA CV Manager

Controlled vocabularies form a crucial part of CESSDA metadata standard. Their use enhances targeted data discovery in the forthcoming CESSDA Product and Services Catalogue and in the Euro Question Bank. The project will develop an open source tool that allows vocabulary creation, translation and maintenance. A search interface for general users will facilitate access to the vocabularies. As CESSDA uses DDI vocabularies whenever possible, the tool will be used to manage both CESSDA and DDI vocabularies. A joint tool speeds up vocabulary creation and removes the need to maintain vocabularies in two places.

Funding period: 1 January 2017 – 30 September 2018

CESSDA Products and Services Catalogue Phase 3 (PaSC)

The aim of the PaSC project is to develop functionalities and usability of CESSDA's central search/discovery service for micro data sets from the holdings of CESSDA service providers. The goal is to make data sets easier to find by collecting metadata in a single service. The PaSC does not hold any data, or itself provide direct access to data but direct researchers to the source/service where the data may be obtained or analysed. The project is lead by UKDS.

Funding period: 1 January – 31 December 2018

CESSDA Technical Framework, Phase 4

CESSDA Technical Working Group (TWG) builds up the IT practices of CESSDA and supports the development of the technical infrastructure. The project is led by UKDS.

Funding period: 1 January – 31 December 2018

CESSDA Vocabulary Services Multilingual Content Maintenance 1 (VOICE)

Vocabularies in CESSDA (VOICE) is a service to manage the multilingual content of CESSDA ERIC. The project will update the content and language versions of the multilingual thesaurus ELSST, and maintain the database and the software.

A CESSDA-wide policy for the creation and maintenance of multilingual content will be defined. Best practice guidelines and some training modules will be created for controlled vocabularies used by CESSDA and for other multilingual content obtained from Service Providers.

Funding period: 1 January – 31 December 2018

CESSDA Trust Working Group

Funding period: 1 January – 31 December 2018

Active FSD for CESSDA: New European Services for Researchers

This project allows the FSD to focus on meeting the requirements set by CESSDA, as well as actively taking part in development work within the research infrastructure. The FSD will have an active role in designing the services that CESSDA will offer to European researchers in the future and ensuring that the services provided by the data archive are in line with European and international standards. The funding by the Academy of Finland is based on the proposal submitted in the FIRI 2016 call for research infrastructures based on state memberships.

Funding period: 1 January 2017 – 31 December 2021

Nordisk prosjekt for harmonisere personvernlovgivningen og praksis i forhold til forskningsbehov

A Nordic project for harmonizing privacy legislation and practices in relation to research needs.

Hankekausi: 1 January – 31 December 2017 (continues)

CESSDA Metadata Management Phase 2 (CMM2)

In the first phase of the CMM project, led by FSD, a metadata model and controlled variables were developed for CESSDA. In the second phase, the model and vocabularies are further developed, and user guidelines created.

The metadata model developed in the project will eventually be available to all CESSDA service providers. Common metadata practices will support the development of joint European services, such as the data catalogue and question bank.

In addition to FSD, participants in the CMM2 project include CESSDA service providers from Belgium, the United Kingdom, Norway, Sweden, Germany, Slovenia and Denmark.

Funding period: 1 May 2016 – 31 December 2018

CESSDA Euro Question Bank

The project aims to develop and implement the Euro Question Bank (EQB), a central search facility across all CESSDA’s holdings. National service providers will contribute documentation on questions in their holdings to the EQB. The question bank will therefore allow users to browse questions used in surveys in different languages in a number of countries, providing enhanced opportunities for question design, question translation and cross-national research.

Funding period: 1 January 2016 – 31 December 2018
