FSD releases new open source tool for sharing metadata
FSD has published a new software bundle that allows transferring descriptive data to external services. The software is easy to use and a lightweight but comprehensive tool for sharing metadata.
The new software, entitled Kuha2, is open source. It supports the OAI-PMH and OSMH harvesting protocols, and includes a tool that enables importing DDI-C 2.5 metadata for harvesting. Other supported harvesting formats are OAI-DC and OSMH-JSON. The software also has a REST API, allowing importing metadata from other sources.
"Development work continues and the number of supported metadata formats will increase. In particular, the support for DDI-C format will be further developed this year. Our aim is to also add completely new supported metadata formats, such as OpenAIRE. In the future, Kuha2 will replace FSD’s current harvesting solution," says Toni Sissala, software developer responsible for creating the new software.
"Our long-term goal is to improve FSD’s interoperability by facilitating the sharing of our rich metadata in several different formats. At the same time, we support the activities of other organisations – such as the smaller member archives of CESSDA – by providing them an open source tool allowing them to export their metadata to various joint services. The software can also be used by organisations and institutions besides data archives because the aim is to make it applicable for multiple purposes," IT Services Manager Matti Heinonen adds.
The current version of Kuha2 was developed as part of the CESSDA SaW project funded by the EU Horizon 2020 Programme.
