EU's Data Protection Regulation Moving Forward - Discussion Continues

The EU's current Data Protection Directive provides an exemption for scientific research, which allows, in some cases, the use of personal data for research purposes without specific consent. These provisions are in danger of being narrowed down or removed from the new Data Protection Regulation, which may lead to negative consequences for scientific research in the future. The Regulation has not yet been approved, and there is still time to influence which provisions will be included in the new Regulation.
